When it comes to entertainment, I am very one dimensional, like a Moliere character. Makes me very predictable.:  I do not care how much trouble is thrown their way, but it must have a happy ending and justice must prevail! It’s entertainment, not the news! (well, some movies may take on the purpose of the news.) I love glamour and a strong character of principle. (Now if movie has both, that is just jackpot!)

ASIA:

Because This Is Our First Life  [이번 생은 처음이라] Romance story? I don’t think anything can top this for me. Perfect on so many levels.

Alchemy of Souls [환혼] Do you like fairy tales, with twists? This is my cup of tea. I am on Season 2 episode 8 and still blows my mind.

Bromance [愛上哥們] And the movie that made me start learning mandarin. (I have watched 2-3 years of Asian series; – non-stop. Not once did I feel the urge to learn Chinese/ Korean/Japanese, etc.) Thank you 杜子楓 / 陳楚河! Took me a few weeks to get my head straight to figure out what caused this effect!! The rhythm is just right!  (Right off the bet, the final episode made me re-watch the whole series to see what happened and exactly when!) So, I had to throw a test in to see what’s going on. (My research paid off, I found my answer! The director knew what he was doing creating smoke and mirrors.)

Meteor Garden [ 流星花] This is THE series that got me onto an ongoing journey of Asian TV series (addiction?). I was awaiting Netflix to have Crazy Rich Asians (saw some commercials and really wanted to see that movie), but was unavailable for weeks. Netflix kept recommending this series instead. I was royally ticked off and refused, till one day, in boredom, I caved in. I was hooked by the end of episode one. That flying sidekick is epic!! Pressure leads to volcanic eruptions! Needless to say, by the time Crazy Rich Asians was available, it just did not measure up to the original Asian counterpart, as it felt rushed and haphazard. I love the chemistry! I can feel it! (Lead character, “Mr. Sexy Eyes”, is born in the year of the Tiger.)

Search WWW [검색어를 입력하세요 WWW]  `Like kick-ass women? This is it!  (I got a red pant-suit because of this movie. -Hubby never misses the opportunity to “say hi”, when I wear it.)

Find Yourself (下一站是幸) “Tigers in love”. Quick comment about Asian female lead characters that irk me: 1.) Bending to outside influences when it concerns their own heart. (Such as parents, social expectations, their own hang-ups, etc.) 2.) Using their man as punching bag, due to their own indecisiveness and conflictions.) SORT IT OUT, THEN GO FOR IT! THIS WAY OR THE OTHER but the dilly-dallying back-and-forth is driving me nuts! …but I guess how would you make a high episode-count series otherwise??

Start-Up (시동)

(It seems, in Asia, the biggest threat to one’s happiness is parents, nasty bosses and corrupt and unfair/unhealthy stressful system…sad message. Not sure how reflective it is of reality on a statistical level. Though suicide rates climbing is not unnoticed either…)
